Mohammed Siraj reports “corrupt approach” to BCCI’s ACU about someone he didn’t know who wanted “inside news” about his cricket team before a big match against Australia.

India bowler Mohammed Siraj reported a “corrupt approach” from a person who sought “inside information” on his squad before Australia began a formal tour of India in February of this year to the BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit (ACU). The Indian bowler, currently a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, immediately informed the ACU unit of the BCCI about the incident. Apparently, a gambler had messaged Siraj due to losing a significant amount of money during India’s matches, expressing his frustration.

Before Australia came to play cricket in India, India played cricket matches against New Zealand and Sri Lanka in January and February. India won 2 T20 matches and 3 ODI matches against Sri Lanka.

India played cricket matches against New Zealand, where India won all 3 ODI matches and 2 out of 3 T20 matchesNew Zealand won the only match played in Ranchi. The person who asked Siraj for secret information was not a bookmaker, but rather a driver from Hyderabad who likes to bet on Indian cricket matches.

According to a senior BCCI source who did not give his name, the individual who requested secret information from Siraj had gambled on Indian cricket matches and lost a lot of money. This person approached Siraj through WhatsApp.

The same source mentioned that Mohammed Siraj immediately informed the Anti Corruption Unit when he was approached. The Andhra Police caught the person who tried to get information from Siraj.

BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit and measures to prevent corruption in cricket.

The BCCI’s Anti Corruption Unit has become stronger since a spot-fixing scandal was discovered in 2013. The scandal involved cricket players S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila, as well as Gurunath Meiyappan, the team principal of Chennai Super Kings.

All IPL teams have an ACU official who stays in the same hotel and monitors all movements at the cricket ground.

The ACU is a department within sports organizations that detects and prevents corruption. The Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) requires players to attend workshops to learn about corrupt approaches and expects them to report any offers to engage in corrupt activity. Non-compliance may result in fines or suspension from the sport. If a player fails to report a corrupt approach, they will face penalties. For instance, Bangladesh’s captain Shakib Al Hasan was suspended in 2021 because he did not report a corrupt approach during the previous IPL season.

RCB have won two matches and lost three matches, which gives them a total of four points. They are currently in eighth place.
